Summer nights are supposed to be relaxing. You're supposed to get in bed, relaxed after a long day and effortlessly fall asleep. Not wake up in a pool of sweat, get stuck to your sheets, or flip around your bed searching for the cool spot.
The good news is there is a way to sleep cool without turning your house into a frozen tundra and spending a fortune on your energy bill.
Choose Cooling Bedding
Unsurprisingly, your sheets, pillows, and yes, your mattress, can make a huge difference.
Linen and cotton are your best bets as they're breathable and naturally moisture-wicking. Watch out for synthetics and blends as they typically hold onto moisture, preventing your body from cooling naturally.
Our charcoal activated carbon memory foam helps channel heat away from your body all night long and our trademarked CoolTouch™ cover is refreshingly cool whenever you're ready to lay down for the night.
Be Strategic with Windows
Good air flow is key to keeping a cool house. If you're fortunate enough, take advantage of the cooler mornings by letting the breeze in.
Just be sure to close the windows and blinds before the sun gets too high! Otherwise you'll start heating up your house.
Throughout the day, and in your bedroom, make sure you've got fans circulating the air and keeping it fresh.
Take a Lukewarm Shower
Bringing your temperature down with a cold shower will only make your body try to heat it back up – which is exactly what you don't want.
So instead of taking a cold shower, take a lukewarm shower. Science says this will help keep your core temperature cool-ish enough to fall asleep easier.
Stay Hydrated
Speaking of your body's natural cooling system, staying properly hydrated is the key to success here.
If you're spending a lot of time in the sun or exercising, make sure you're getting electrolytes and replacing the water you're sweating out. You'll know you're properly hydrated if your urine is pale yellow.
Just don't drink a bunch of water right before bed or you'll be up all night!
Sleep Alone
This is becoming more common, but it does come with a big caveat. First, know that "sleep divorces" can help some couples sleep easier because of sleep hygiene issues (think: snoring, reading/phone use, body heat, etc), but another study suggests sleeping with a significant other can help your mental health.
So, if you sleep better with your person, having a separate top sheet and/or blanket is the perfect way to solve that problem. You may find it helps you both sleep better even when it's not hot.
Final Thoughts
A hot night shouldn't mean you spend it tossing and turning. Sleep cool this summer using the tips above and our Springtown mattress that features both our CoolTouch™ Cover and heat dissipating Charcoal Activated Carbon Memory Foam.
