Daylight savings time and sleep
Humans are guided by circadian rhythms, which are 24-hour cycles that regulate sleep and other key bodily functions such as appetite and mood. These rhythms are largely dependent on light exposure. The sudden changes in natural light with DST can delay your sleep-wake cycle, making you feel tired in the morning and alert in the evening, or vice versa.
Is a weighted blanket right for you?
Having the right mattress for you is a huge step forward when it comes to getting the rest you need. But we know that modern life can be stressful, and laying down on something cozy isn’t always enough to quiet down your thoughts. A weighted blanket coupled with your Milton mattress might be a combination worth exploring to revitalize your rest and bring a newfound sense of calm.
Best and worst US cities for sleep
We’ve all heard New York described as ‘the city that never sleeps’. Catchy slogans aside, there are real reasons why people in some cities may sleep better – or worse – than people in others. A study carried out by the Sleep Foundation, in partnership with Sleep Cycle, helped identify the cities in the US where people are getting the best sleep, and the cities where people could use more shut-eye.
How much sleep do we really need?
We all know sleep is important. Even without knowing any specific studies, we’ve all experienced those mornings when waking up feels like the last thing we want to do. When coffee-fueled days and late nights feel like the norm, it can be hard to imagine changing your routine. But given that we know how it feels when we don’t get enough sleep, it begs the question: how much do we actually need?
Sleep rituals across the world
The rituals and patterns that surround sleep can look different depending on which country and culture you come from. When, where, and how you sleep becomes an offshoot of the culture that you are a part of, just like it does for the food we eat and holidays we celebrate. Here’s a few of our favorite sleeping traditions from this big world we call home.
Oversleeping vs. Undersleeping
Both oversleeping and undersleeping can harm us in their own ways. Obviously, we can’t all get the perfect amount of sleep every night. But it’s when either one of these turns into a pattern that we can sometimes be in trouble. When we get the right amount of sleep, our bodies can function in an optimum way. Unfortunately, that can mean the reverse is true if we aren’t getting in the ballpark of 8 hours per night. So, what’s the deal with over and under sleeping?
Milton & Serta: The Longtime Partnership
Here at Milton, we’ve been invested in making comfortable and durable mattresses for quite some time. Our grandfather, Milton Smith, first created the company in the 1950’s with the goal of creating quality, affordable mattresses for the community. Some of the largest brands in the US worked with Mr. Smith because of the quality beds his organization lovingly built. Even more importantly, they did so because of his integrity and comforting “voice of reason” that flowed throughout every point of contact at the company.
The workday through the ages
The modern workday can look a lot different than it used to. When your company’s been around for 70 years, it gives you a chance to notice just how much things have changed. In the last decade, a lot of folks have swapped more active jobs on their feet for something a little more desk oriented. That couldn’t be truer than now, with more people working remotely than ever before.
Some things in your home should be built to last.
What makes a house a home? For most, it is the people, memories, and items that you fill your house with. It is the family that might call that space home alongside you. It is the place that you have dinner parties, breakfast chats, and lazy Sunday afternoons. Special moments created in a space that feels comfortable, familiar, and secure.
Why is buying a mattress so complicated?
That’s a good question, honestly. It seems like it should be simple enough – you’re looking for something comfortable and welcoming. Maybe something firm or plush or somewhere in between. Something that keeps you cooler on hot nights, and cozy on colder nights. Maybe you’re a little taller than most, or maybe you sleep on your side, and you want a mattress that can accommodate that.
